Cataphyllia is a stunning large-polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its vibrant, fleshy polyps in shades of green, red, or orange, often with striking fluorescent highlights. Commonly called Candy Cane Coral or Bubble Coral, it adds bold color and texture to reef aquariums.

Lighting Requirements:

Moderate lighting is ideal. Too intense light can cause bleaching, while too little may reduce growth.

T5s, LEDs, or metal halides are suitable when placed in mid-level tank positions.

Acclimate to new lighting gradually to avoid stress.

Water Flow:

Low to moderate flow is preferred.

Too strong a current can damage delicate polyps; too little flow may allow detritus buildup.

Feeding Requirements:

While Cataphyllia corals contain symbiotic zooxanthellae for photosynthesis, they benefit greatly from supplemental feeding.

Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1–2 times per week.

Target feed with a turkey baster or pipette to encourage polyp expansion and growth.

Tank Placement:

Place on sand or rubble at the bottom or mid-level of the tank.

Ensure enough space around the coral to prevent stinging nearby corals with its sweeper tentacles
