Overview:
Blastos are large-polyp stony (LPS) corals prized for their vibrant, fleshy polyps, often displaying rich reds, greens, and oranges. Known for their striking appearance and movement, Blastos make a colorful addition to reef aquariums.Lighting Requirements:
Low to moderate lighting is ideal.
LED, T5, or metal halide lighting at mid or lower tank levels works best.
Gradual acclimation to new lighting helps prevent bleaching.
Water Flow:
Low to moderate, indirect flow is preferred.
Strong currents can damage polyps, while insufficient flow can allow detritus buildup.
Feeding Requirements:
Blastos contain zooxanthellae for photosynthesis but respond very well to supplemental feeding.
Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1–2 times per week.
Target feeding promotes polyp extension, coloration, and growth.
Tank Placement:
Place on stable rock at mid or lower levels of the tank.
Ensure space between other corals to avoid aggression with sweeper tentacles
