Frogspawn coral is a popular large-polyp stony (LPS) coral admired for its flowing, waving tentacles with bulbous tips, resembling frog eggs. Its vibrant colors—green, brown, gold, or purple—make it a centerpiece in reef aquariums. Frogspawn is moderately hardy and adds dynamic movement to your tank.
Lighting Requirements:
Moderate lighting is ideal; too much light can bleach the coral, too little can stunt growth.
Suitable for T5, LED, or metal halide systems at mid-level positions in the tank.
Gradually acclimate the coral to higher lighting to prevent stress.
Water Flow:
Moderate, indirect flow is best.
Strong direct flow can damage delicate polyps; insufficient flow can allow detritus accumulation and reduce polyp expansion.
Feeding Requirements:
Frogspawn coral contains zooxanthellae for photosynthesis but benefits from supplemental feeding.
Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1–2 times per week.
Target feeding with a pipette or turkey baster encourages polyp growth and coloration.
Tank Placement:
Best placed mid-level or lower in the tank on stable rock.
Ensure ample space around the coral to avoid aggression with nearby corals using sweeper tentacles.
