Goniopora, commonly known as Flowerpot Coral, is a beautiful large-polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its delicate, flowing polyps that resemble a bouquet of flowers. With colors ranging from green, pink, purple, and brown, Goniopora adds elegance and movement to reef aquariums.
Lighting Requirements:
Moderate lighting is best; too strong can cause bleaching, too weak can slow growth.
T5, LED, or metal halide lighting is suitable at mid-level tank placement.
Gradually acclimate the coral to new lighting to avoid stress.
Water Flow:
Moderate, indirect flow is ideal.
Too strong a current can damage polyps, while insufficient flow may lead to detritus buildup and polyp closure.
Feeding Requirements:
Goniopora contains zooxanthellae for photosynthesis but thrives with supplemental feeding.
Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, rotifers, or finely chopped seafood 2–3 times per week.
Target feeding with a pipette or turkey baster encourages polyp extension, color vibrancy, and healthy growth.
Tank Placement:
Place on stable rock at mid-level or lower areas of the tank.
Ensure enough space around the coral to prevent stinging nearby corals with its sweeper tentacles.
